Mobile wastewater treatment

AquaRecycle delivers containerised, mobile wastewater treatment systems that safely treat and recycle water generated on site, enabling reuse and reducing reliance on tanker removal or disposal.

How the AquaRecycle system works

AquaRecycle systems utilise Reprotex water recycling units, an industry proven technology used to both, safely treat water drawn from local freshwater sources and also recycle wastewater from site processes.

The system is housed in a 20‑foot ISO container and can treat up to 200 L/min of process wastewater, enabling immediate reuse on site.

A fully automated, closed‑loop solution, it separates 5–10% solids while recycling 90–95% as clean water (filtered to <1 μm). pH levels are continuously monitored and adjusted to ensure safe, reliable operation.

Compact and easy to deploy, the containerised design allows for straightforward transport, installation and relocation across sites.

The system treats contaminated process water to a standard suitable for safe reuse or discharge, making it ideal for both high‑pressure and general construction applications. It helps maintain consistent water quality while reducing reliance on fresh water supplies.

Kariba Dam rehabilitation project

The Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project (KDRP) is a major international infrastructure programme focused on safeguarding one of the world’s largest hydroelectric dams and securing long-term energy supply for Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Constructed in 1955, the 128 metre-high double-curvature concrete arch dam spans 579 metres across the Kariba Gorge, forming Lake Kariba and holding approximately 185 km³ of water.
In 2020, Aquaforce Concrete Services (parent company of AquaRecycle) was appointed by Freyssinet International, the main contractor, to deliver specialist hydrodemolition works.

Aquaforce removed around 1,000 m³ of concrete from the dam’s six sluices to enable upgrades to the spillway gates. The works combined robotic hydrodemolition and hand-held water jetting techniques.

Due to the remote location and limited access to potable water, Aquaforce deployed two Reprotex containerised water treatment and recycling systems. These systems can process up to 200 litres per minute, recycling 90–95% of wastewater back into reusable clean water (filtered to <1 μm), while separating 5–10% as solid waste.

This allowed the team to:
• Extract and treat water directly from Lake Kariba for use in high-pressure systems
• Recycle hydrodemolition process water for continuous reuse on site

Following project completion in 2025, both treatment units were returned to the UK for continued use by AquaRecycle.
